Interview with Matt Como – The Como Brothers Band
The Como Brothers Band website: www.comobrothersband.com
First of all, thank you for taking the time to participate in this interview!
Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to interview me!
Matt, would you like to give us a bit of history regarding the Como Brothers?
We are two brothers. My brother Andrew is 21 years old, plays guitar, and sings. I’m 23 years old, play bass, and sing. We’ve always really loved music. Our Dad and uncles always played music around us when we were younger and we always wanted to play with them. So we pursued music from that point on and never stopped!
Your music has been played on MTV’s The Real World and E! Entertainment’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians. How did that come about? How did it make you feel hearing your music on TV?
A licensing company for MTV and E! actually approached us out-of-nowhere and said they found our music online and really liked it. So our songs ended up playing in the background of scenes for those TV shows. It was awesome to hear our music on TV – we held a little party and everyone yelled and screamed when the songs came on.
Your first EP, “The Speed of Sound”, was released in January of this year. How well was that received?
The Speed of Sound was very well received by people. It is a good taste of what we are capable of in terms of songwriting but it is not the full picture. We are recording a new EP with new music for release in early 2013!!
What is your favourite song from that EP and why?
My favorite song is Underneath It All because it describes feelings escape and longing for the future. It was written in one sitting too which was pretty cool for me.
Underneath It all
What has been your proudest moment as a band?
When we played Warped Tour at Nassau Coliseum. That has been our proudest moment so far. Having our music featured on MTV and E! was really cool too.
Do you have any upcoming gigs that any of our readers should know about?
We are playing in Manhattan at The National Underground, downtown, on December 21st.
Regarding gigs, are you limited to the US, or do you plan on touring to places such as the UK? I’m sure your music would be much welcomed over here!
We absolutely want to come to the UK ASAP!! It would be amazing, but as of right now we are limited to the US. Hopefully we gain a bit of traction to enable us to travel over the pond.
When you are not creating music, how do you like to spend your time?
Andrew and I are in college so we have to make time for school work. Of course spending time with family and friends. We spend so much time with music that we don’t have much time for anything else though — and that’s how we like it.
Who have been your biggest influences, in life in general and specifically in your music career?
Our parents and family are our biggest supporters and influences in life. In music we always loved The Beatles, John Mayer, and other blues artists like Stevie Ray, Hendrix, and BB King.
What are your future aspirations and goals?
To release our full length album! We want to make a career out of music and hopefully be able to reach everyone with our music.
Can our readers purchase your music? Or help support you in any other way?
Yes! Our EP “The Speed of Sound” is now on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.
Fan questions
Lena asked “Can you ask the Como Brothers what day we can get their new EP and are they going to release one song from the EP before the actual Full EP release?”
That is a good idea to release one song before the EP Lena, I like it! I’m not sure about an exact release date for the new EP but it will probably be in late January 2013.
She also asked “When are they going on tour and who would they like to tour with?”
We would love to tour — I think that is one of our main goals after we are done in the studio. Touring with John Mayer would be more than cool, or Phillip Phillips — he seems like a cool dude.
Roger Smith also would like to know when they are going on tour, and if Kayla Stockert will be performing her three songs during it?
The Como Brothers and Kayla Stockert are like family and we are going to keep working with her, writing songs, and hopefully playing out soon with her!
What They Say by Kayla Stockert & The Como Brothers
Jean would like to know what your intentions are with Kayla Stockert. She says “Their EP the Speed of Sound alone and their EP with Kayla Stockert were both amazing. Have they considered forming a band?”
Kayla is like family to us. We have considered forming a band – and we kind of did! It’s just called “Kayla Stockert and The Como Brothers” — whenever we play or write a record together with her we will use that name.
Carmella Parlato asks “Are you going to write songs with any other artists or for any other artists?”
Of course! Writing songs is our passion and if the opportunity comes up with an artist that is a good fit we will definitely be interested.
Carmella also asks “What up and coming artist would you like to tour with and collaborate with?”
Cassadee Pope or Phillip Phillips would be cool to collaborate with!
Maria Fagan-Paisley would like to know who your favourite movie stars (male and female) are?
I personally think Russel Brand is hilarious – I love his acting. Emma Stone is awesome.
An anonymous user also has a few questions:
“Are you going to be playing anywhere on Long Island where teens can come and see you?”
Yes! I haven’t figured out when or where but we will be making a big effort to do this after our new music is released!
“As a parent of teenage boys who play the guitar and go to lessons, how do you get them to really take it seriously and practice?”
They need to be inspired by it and have a passion for it. Finding them an artist or a “sound” that they love will inspire them to play more and more. If they want to be the best they can be practice is essential!
Again we would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt for his time, as well as to thank all the fans who sent in their questions!
